The lead up to Easter sees the supermarket shelves stuffed full of chocolate eggs, marshmallows and other sugary treats. Easter has become a major minefield of hyper-activity and potential tooth decay for our little ones. While we all love sweet treats in moderation, we also love healthy treats that we can use to celebrate our favourite times of year. So, here are some of our favourite Easter recipes for healthy treats.

Easter Themed Healthy Foods

Whip up some excitement for these regular healthy snacks by making them Easter themed.

Vege Delight: What is the Easter Bunny’s favourite snack? Why carrot sticks of course!

Ditch The Chocolate: We can’t have chocolate eggs all the time, but we can have hard boiled eggs, a nutrition packed snack.

Sandwich Alternative: Instead of plain old round bread rolls, it only takes a few pinches of the dough to have bunny shaped rolls instead.

Fancy Sandwich: Cut a cheese sandwich in an oval shape, then use a zig zag line to cut the oval in half to look like a cracked egg.

Egg Carton Snack Tray: Use plastic refillable Easter eggs and line them up in an egg carton with a delicious range of your kids’ favourite snacks. Little chunks of fruit, nuts, vege sticks, crackers, whatever your little ones enjoy. Example

Fancy Fruit: Use pieces of fruit to make Easter shapes on the plate, try bunny faces or patterned Easter eggs.

Easter Recipes For Healthy Treats

Yoghurt Dipped Fruit

Instead of chocolate dipping, have you considered yoghurt dipping? All you need is your fruit and your favourite flavour of yoghurt. Dip the fruit in the yoghurt, place them on a baking tray and freeze them for around 20mins. Dip them a second time for a thicker coat of yoghurt and return them to the freezer for another 20mins.

3 Ingredient Bunny Pancakes (Allergy Friendly)

Whip up some pancakes in the shape of bunnies using this awesome allergy friendly recipe from Happy Mum Happy Child. You can either make individual pancakes to create the shape of the head and ears, or use a bunny shaped cookie cutter. Only 3 ingredients make these pancakes super easy to make, and super versatile for toppings.

Frozen Yoghurt Fruit Bark

As pretty as a brightly wrapped Easter Egg, this frozen treat is delicious and nutritious. Spread a generous amount of your favourite yoghurt on a tray lined with baking paper. Add your fruit toppings – feel free to use frozen berries as you are going to freeze the whole snack anyway. You can also drizzle a bit of maple syrup for sweetness if you want, but that is optional. Pop the tray in the freezer and leave for approximately 4 hours. When it’s completely frozen you can break it into shards to enjoy now, or save for later in freezer bags. Example

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Eggs

These egg shaped snacks from Weary Chef are a super easy no bake recipe. Combining rolled oats, coconut, peanut butter, honey and some wee sweet treats, make these yummy little snacks.

Easter Chick Devilled Eggs

She Knows have come up with the cutest way to eat eggs at Easter time! Kick your devilled eggs up a notch by turning them into cute little chicks. Using tiny chunks of carrot you can make the beak and feet, and make eyes with little pieces of olives.

Hopefully these Easter recipes will give you some inspiration for feeding hungry tummies with tasty and healthy treats this Easter. It doesn’t always have to be chocolate to be great.
